The actress is using her platform and speaking out against Asian hate as the crimes against the ethnic community have increased this past year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, Jamie Chung made it very clear that she’ has experienced racism herself so she knows how it feels from personal experience.
During an interview for HollywoodLife, she explained that joining other voices to stand up for the AAPI community ‘came quite naturally, because honestly, I am speaking from personal experience. Through my posts, you could really see me go through those stages of grief. You are so shocked and you are confused, you are angry, you are sad. And now I’m like, ‘Okay, now, what is the next step? How do we make this better?’
Sure enough, you may know that after quite a few violent attacks towards Asians in America, Jamie tweeted: ‘Targets, Hunted Down, 8 murdered. We do not feel safe. #StopAsianHate.’
She went on to tell the media to ‘do better’ and ‘call it for what it is — domestic white terrorism hate crimes against Asian.’
Now, in the interview, she explained that ‘It is important that we stop getting passed over or brushed off and told we ‘don’t have it that bad.’ It is bad. And it is time to validate that.’
POTUS Joe Biden just signed a COVID-19 Hate Crimes Bill last week and made sure to highlight the attacks on the Asian-American community.
He also labelled racism and hate as ‘the ugly poison that has long haunted and plagued our nation.’
Jamie Chung also spread the anti racism message at the SAG Awards where she wore a Stop Asian Hate clutch.
