Tottenham star Yves Bissouma was sent off after VAR intervened following a high challenge on Ryan Yates.

The Mali international was shown his second red card of the season after a bad tackle on Nottingham Forest star Yates.

As the two contested for the ball, Bissouma's foot was high and connected with the 26-year-old's knee.

Referee Jarred Gillett initially showed the Tottenham star a yellow card.

But VAR referee Michael Oliver intervened and told his colleague to watch the incident on the pitchside monitor, which prompted Gillett to change his decision from a yellow card to a red one.

As it is his second sending-off of the season, Bissouma will now miss four matches through suspension.

The former Brighton star saw red against Luton Town earlier in the season and will miss matches against Everton, Brighton, Bournemouth and Burnley.

Bissouma is also the seventh player to be red-carded twice in a single Premier League season for Tottenham, and the first since Kyle Naughton in 2014/15.

There could be further bad news for Ange Postecoglou with the AFCON coming up next month.

Bissouma could be away with Mali for several weeks, just as his suspension is served.

With a winter break planned as well, it could see Tottenham without the midfielder's services until February.

On Friday night, though, the red card did not prove too problematic as Spurs left the City Ground with all three points.

Goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski gave the London outfit a 2-0 victory despite Forest knocking on the door late into the contest.

After a run of four defeats in a row, it has given Spurs back-to-back wins at a vital time in the season.

It means that Tottenham have gone level with Manchester City on 33 points and puts them four points behind first-placed Liverpool.

With just four points separating the top five, it could be the most open title race in years.
